Teens who escaped from Birmingham juvenile facility captured in Cullman

May 9—Cullman County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested three teens accused of robberies in West Virginia.

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Thursday afternoon, deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the Gold Ridge area.

"The vehicle refused to stop and a short pursuit followed. The vehicle stopped and the occupants abandoned the vehicle at the intersection of County Road 1422 and County Road 1476."

Deputies determined that the three were juveniles who had been reported as escapees from a juvenile facility in Birmingham.

"These juveniles were wanted in connection with multiple crimes across multiple states, and were considered to be armed and dangerous. The CCSO Tracking K9s were deployed. Cullman City PD and AST assisted the CCSO with air support as well, in order to locate the juveniles," read the statement.

Due to their juvenile status, the sheriff's office did not release any further information, or photos of the teens.

"I would like to commend our deputies for being diligent throughout this ordeal. I would like to thank our K9 Trackers for an outstanding job. I would also like to thank the support of all the other agencies that stepped in to help locate these individuals. This was a tremendous team effort and a great success in getting these subjects back behind bars," said sheriff Matt Gentry.
