Teen's death at Centretown park was accidental, police say

Ottawa police say the death of a 16-year-old boy at a Centretown park last month was accidental and they won't be laying any charges.

Emergency crews were called to McNabb Park at the corner of Bronson and Gladstone avenues on the evening of April 12 after getting reports that a fight had broken out.

The boy was found suffering from undisclosed injuries, police said at the time. He was taken to hospital, where he later died.

The force's homicide unit was called in to handle the investigation. Several days after the boy's death, Ottawa police said they'd identified everyone involved in the incident and that they weren't seeking any suspects.

In a news release Thursday, police said the homicide unit had wrapped up its investigation and determined that no criminal offence had taken place.

"The death has been deemed accidental and the victim will not be identified," police said.
