Teenager dies days after being shot in Oxon Hill

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) said it was investigating a shooting in Oxon Hill that left a teenager from D.C. dead.

The shooting happened in the 1000 block of Kennebec St. on April 22 around 10 p.m. There, officers found 16-year-old De’Marco Bradford and a man outside. Both of them had been shot.

They were both taken to the hospital. Bradford died a few days later. The other man’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to police.

The motive of the shooting and who was involved was still being investigated.

Anyone with information was asked to call (301) 516-2512.

PGPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone with information that leads to an arrest and indictment of those involved.

Data-labeling startup Scale AI raises $1B as valuation doubles to $13.8B
Scale AI, which provides data-labeling services to companies that want to train machine learning models, has raised a $1 billion Series F round from a slew of big-name institutional and corporate investors that include Amazon and Meta. The fundraise is a mix of primary and secondary funding, and is the latest in a slew of big venture capital investments in AI. Amazon recently closed a $4 billion investment in OpenAI rival Anthropic, and the likes of Mistral AI and Perplexity are also in the process of raising more billion-dollar rounds at lofty valuations.

EU Council gives final nod to set up risk-based regulations for AI
It's a wrap: European Union lawmakers have given the final approval to set up the bloc's flagship, risk-based regulations for artificial intelligence. In a press release confirming the approval of the EU AI Act, the Council of the European Union said the law is "ground-breaking," and that "as the first of its kind in the world, it can set a global standard for AI regulation." The European Parliament had already approved the legislation in March.

The top vehicle safety regulator in the U.S. has launched a formal probe into an April crash involving the all-electric VinFast VF8 SUV that claimed the lives of a family of four, TechCrunch has learned. OpenAI is removing one of the voices used by ChatGPT. Users found that it sounded similar to Scarlett Johansson, the company announced on Monday, and Johansson herself released a statement saying she hired legal council to inquire about the Sky voice and get exact details about how it was developed. "We believe that AI voices should not deliberately mimic a celebrity's distinctive voice—Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice," the company wrote in a blog post.
