Teenage girl's heartwarming act for deaf and blind man on flight

Passengers on board a packed flight have been left in awe of a kind-hearted teenage girl after she jumped into action to help a blind and deaf man.

Tim Cook, who was flying home after visiting his sister, is both blind and deaf and was unable to make any sort of communication with the flight attendants – who passengers said were doing their utmost to assist him.

Mid-way through the Alaska Airlines flight, a flight attendant put a call over the intercom asking if anyone knew sign language.

That is when 15-year-old Clara Daly, who was travelling with her mother from Boston to Los Angeles via Portland, offered her assistance.

The dyslexic teenager had started learning sign language about a year ago as a better way to communicate without having to read or write.

Her proud mother Jane was one of several passengers who watched on as she knelt down alongside Mr Cook and started to gesture into the palm of his hand.

“They explained that the passenger was not only deaf, but also blind. The only way you can communicate with him was by signing into his hand,” Ms Davy wrote on Facebook.

She shared a series of moving images, showing Clara gesturing into Tim’s hand with a big smile on her face.

“He asked her lots of questions and she signed-spelled the answers into his hand. The flight attendants and the passengers around him were all taken by Clara.”

Jane said she helped him ask for water and how much longer was left on the flight before eventually returning and spending the remainder of the flight until landing with him.

“He didn’t need anything. He was just like lonely and wanted to talk,” Clara told CBS Los Angeles.

Mr Cook, who was welcomed back to Portland by his senior living service provider, later said it was the best flight he had ever taken.
