Teen shot in back, hospitalized in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 16-year-old is in the hospital following a shooting in Grand Rapids early Sunday morning.

Around 4 a.m., officers with the Grand Rapids Police Department were sent to Ardmore Street SE near Eastern Avenue SE for a shooting.

GRPD said that a 16-year-old boy had been shot in the back. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

No suspect information has been released.

It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but GRPD said that officers were called to the area earlier in the evening after receiving reports of shots fired.

The shooting remains under investigation.
