Teen, man arrested in connection with Tucson shooting that killed 25-year-old man

A teenager and a man were facing murder and robbery charges in connection with a shooting that left a 25-year-old man dead and a woman injured two months ago in Tucson.

Tucson police said on the night of June 22, Daniel Lopez, 25, and a woman who was with him were shot following a fight at East Tucson Marketplace Boulevard and South Park Avenue.

Just before 11 p.m., officers received reports of a shooting and found both Lopez and the woman with gunshot trauma at the intersection of South Park Avenue and East Ajo Way, police said.

Officers tried to save Lopez, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The woman was taken to Banner University Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Detectives said they learned during the investigation that Lopez was in the area of Tucson Marketplace Boulevard and Park Avenue for a "prearranged transaction" with the suspects, whom police identified as Darrel Lamar Brown, 35, and Gilbert Francisco Grajeda, 15.

There, Lamar Brown, Grajeda and Lopez engaged in a physical fight that resulted in shots being fired, according to a police news release.

Both Lopez and the woman left the area in a vehicle after being struck by gunfire, ending up at the intersection of South Park Avenue and East Ajo Way, according to police.

On July 27, officials located and arrested Grajeda. Detectives charged him with first-degree murder, armed robbery, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault, police said.

On Friday, nearly two months after the shooting, officers found Lamar Brown and took him into custody. He was facing charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated robbery, police said.

Both Lamar Brown and Grajeda were booked into the Pima County Jail and were being held on a $1 million bond each.
