Teen with gun on West Iredell High School campus arrested: Sheriff

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Statesville teenager who brought a gun on school premises is now facing charges, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday.

Deputies responded to reports on Friday, May 17, regarding Austin Thomas, 18, of Statesville, possibly heading to West Iredell High School armed with a gun.

While Thomas was not found on the premises, video surveillance showed Thomas leaving the campus in a truck and a search ensued.

Thomas and the truck were located a short time later and a traffic stop was conducted. A high-powered rifle and drugs were found in the vehicle and Thomas was arrested and faces multiple charges including drug possession and felony possession of a gun on school property.

He is being held on a $3,000 bond and has already appeared in court.
