Teen gets maximum sentence in arson that killed family of 5

DENVER (KDVR) — A teenager who was 16 when he and two others were accused of burning down a house, killing a family of five in Green Valley Ranch, was sentenced Friday to 40 years in prison.

Gavin Seymour, now 19 years old, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2020 arson on North Truckee Street.

A family of Senegalese immigrants — a baby, a toddler and three adults — all died in what investigators have said was a case of misdirected revenge in a drug trafficking scheme. Three other people — a man, woman and child — jumped from the second story of the burning home and survived.

Seymour’s 40-year sentence is the maximum sentence allowed. He also was sentenced to five years of mandatory parole and will get credit for time already served.

Another two teenagers were accused in the case. The youngest suspect, Dillon Siebert, was sentenced in February 2023 to spend at least seven years incarcerated as an adult. He also received a separate juvenile court sentence of three years in the Division of Youth Services.
