Teen found with more than five pounds of marijuana in Ashe County, charged: Sheriff

ASHE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A teen has been arrested after being found with an assortment of drugs including more than five pounds of marijuana, according to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 7, a deputy was patrolling in Jefferson when he saw a vehicle with several traffic violations.

The deputy performed a traffic stop and identified the driver as 18-year-old Joshua Smith Cordoba from Catawba, N.C. Officials say he was driving on an indefinitely suspended license.

The deputy searched the vehicle and found three concealed handguns, a large sum of money, more than five pounds of marijuana, a bag of mushrooms and several drug paraphernalia items.

Cordoba was booked into Ashe County Detention Center under a $40,000 secured bond for the charges of:

  • Felony possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance

  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana

  • Felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance

  • Felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule I controlled substance

  • Possession of marijuana paraphernalia

  • Carrying a concealed gun

  • Driving while license revoked (not impaired)

  • Resisting a public officer

  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
