Teen in custody following Thursday shooting in Patterson Springs

A 17-year-old is in the custody of juvenile justice after law enforcement said he shot and critically injured another teenager while the two were inside a vehicle Thursday afternoon near Patterson Springs.

Capt. John Humphries with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office said the shooting took place around 3 p.m. near Kim Drive and Shaw Street.

He said there were at least three people in the car at the time and some type of altercation took place which allegedly led to the 17-year-old pulling out a gun and shooting 18-year-old Kenneth Patterson in the neck. The shooter then got out of the car, Humphries said, and he was later found and taken into custody.
