Teen certified as adult in St. Louis murder, charged with four felonies

ST. LOUIS – A teenager faces four felony charges after he was certified as an adult earlier this month in a St. Louis murder case from last year.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has charged Tabari Freeman, 17, with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action amid the investigation.

Freeman is accused in the shooting death of 20-year-old Calvin Kelly from Oct. 24, 2023. The shooting happened in the 4800 block of Shreve Avenue in St. Louis’ Mark Twain neighborhood.

Investigators say Kelly was found with a gunshot wound to his head as officers arrived to the scene. He was rushed to a hospital, though he later died from his injuries.

An order of detention was filed against Freeman on April 18, which orders him to remain confined pending trial and jailed without bond. Freeman has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Thursday in the murder case.
