Teen arrested after allegedly stealing car with baby inside

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An 18-year-old has been arrested after Memphis Police say he stole a car with a baby inside last month.

Marcus Nixon is charged with kidnapping and theft of property $10,000-$60,000. He was booked into jail on Thursday.

According to reports, officers say they responded to the Getwell Express gas station in Southeast Memphis on April 23 regarding the theft of a silver Audi A4 with a one-year-old boy inside.

The father of the child stated that he went inside the gas station to pay for gas while the car was still running. When he came back to the car, he began to pump the gas.

He then went back into the store, but when he came back out his car and the baby were gone, reports state.

That is when officers searched the area and later found the vehicle with the baby inside just two miles away on Outland Road.

MPD says video surveillance captured a man, matching Nixon’s description, removing the gas nozzle from the fuel fill port before getting into the car and driving away. Ridge detail was also found on the car door.

After towing the car to the crime scene office, a latent print examiner was able to positively match the ridge detail to existing prints belonging to Nixon.

Marcus Nixon was arrested and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning.

On May 16, Nixon was also charged with burglary of a vehicle in another case.
