Teen admits to 2022 fatal shooting on Weld Street in Rochester

A Rochester teen on Wednesday admitted that he killed another teen on Weld Street in 2022.

Raymar Alexander, now 18, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, a felony, for the Nov. 1, 2022 shooting death of Chance Mosley of Rochester, according to the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.

Mosley, 17, was shot at least 10 times, including in the upper body, according to Rochester police. Mosley, who was found wounded on the porch of a Weld Street home, died at the scene. Alexander also shot himself in the arm during the altercation, which occurred around 3:45 a.m.

Neither teen lived at the Weld Street home where Mosley was killed, according to police. However, in August 2023, a 16-year-old girl who lived in that same Weld Street home walked out of her family's home, telling her grandmother she would be right back. Jakarah Lopez-Moore did not return. Her body was found six weeks later in a wooded area behind an industrial complex.

Police have said that they have no reason to believe there was a connection between the two slayings, other than the connection to location of Mosley's death was the same Weld Street home where Jakarah lived. A 27-year-old man was charged in connection with her death.

Alexander will be sentenced to 17 years in state prison, plus five years of post-release supervision, according to Assistant District Attorney Matthew Schiano, who prosecuted the case. He is scheduled to be sentenced in Family Court on July 19.

"Raymar Alexander violently stole the life of the victim, while ruining his own life in the process," Schiano said.

“An altercation between two teenagers resulted in the violent death of 17-year-old Chance Mosely,” Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley said in a news release. “The violence we have seen over the past four years is heartbreaking, especially when it involves the youth in our community."
