Teen accused of fatally shooting Washington tourist in Marigny enters not guilty plea

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A 16-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting a Washington tourist in the Marigny in January has entered a plea of not guilty.

On Jan. 5, 2024, the NOPD reported that a man had been shot to death at the intersection of Kelerec and Bourbon streets. The Orleans Parish coroner later identified the victim as 32-year-old Jacob Carter.

Deputies investigate two drive-by shootings in Loranger

Carter, a business owner in Tacoma, was reportedly visiting New Orleans with his husband for vacation.

On Jan. 9, a source told WGNO that a car recovered from Bayou St. John may have been connected to the homicide investigation.

On Jan. 12, a 16-year-old was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting.

Separate shootings hours apart leave four people wounded in New Orleans

On Tuesday, May 21, Malik Cornelius was arraigned as an adult suspect in the homicide, but he remains in the juvenile jail on a $600,000 bond.

Cornelius faces a charge of second-degree murder.
