Ted Cruz Is in the Process of Renouncing His Canadian Citizenship
Texas Senator Ted Cruz has retained counsel to help him renounce his Canadian citizenship. Cruz was born in Calgary in 1970, where he automatically received U.S. citizenship due to his mother being an American citizen, as well as Canadian citizenship for being born within their territory.
When the dual citizenship was first brought to light back in August, Cruz was quick to announce that he would be abandoning the land colloquially referred to as America's Hat in order to focus full-time on the U.S. government (and shutting down said government). His statement read, "Nothing against Canada, but I'm an American by birth and as a U.S. senator; I believe I should be only an American."
Canada respond, "Oh that's too bad , but hey, what're you gonna do, eh?" (Get it? Because all Canadians are nice to a fault? And say "eh" all the time?)
Cruz told the Dallas Morning News that he expects to complete the process sometime in 2014, well ahead of the 2016 presidential election, which he has denied any potential involvement in.

The process of renouncing his Canadian roots comes at the end of a whirlwind year for Cruz. He appeared on ABC's This Week on Sunday and said, "This is a city where it’s all politics all the time. And I’m trying to do my best not to pay attention to the politics, to focus on fixing the problems."
