TED conference on technology, entertainment, moves from California to B.C.

VANCOUVER - An annual conference that features innovative ideas and inspiring speeches is moving from California to Vancouver.

TED, which stands for the Technology, Entertainment, Design conference, is held each year in Long Beach, Calif., but Vancouver will play host in 2014.

A parallel forum called the TEDActive conference will also shift from Palm Springs to Whistler.

Past TED conferences have included a variety of speakers from former U.S. president Bill Clinton to Apple founder Steve Jobs and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

The speeches are posted online where they've gained a wide following around the world.

Mayor Gregor Robertson says having the TED conference come to Vancouver is a big vote of confidence in the creative, social and community leaders who make it a leading-edge city.
