TechieBot review

TechieBot provides basic security and performance recommendations and executes the solutions in an automated, no-input-required manner. This free software can do a handful of things that range from emptying your Recycle Bin to installing Google Chrome and Microsoft Security Essentials, all automatically.

Pros

All-in-one scan: TechieBot uses a unified scan for both performance and security issues; the scan completes in under half a minute and recommends actions like disabling startup programs, emptying the Recycle bin and temporary caches, enabling Windows Update, and installing Microsoft Security Essentials and Google Chrome. All of these solutions are optional and can be disabled individually.

Fixes issues automatically: During our tests, we let the software perform all recommendations, including disabling startup services, emptying the trash, and installing Microsoft Security Essentials as well as Google Chrome. Not only was all that done in under four minutes, but it was also completely automated -- we didn't go to a single download page or fiddle with any installation wizards.

Auto-start manager: You can enable and disable different startup programs as well as scheduled runs of applications through an intuitive and straightforward startup manager. Unfortunately, you can only enable and disable tasks; you cannot delete them outright.

Cons

Unstable: When we initially tested the product on a 64-bit Windows 8 Core, we encountered consistent crashes after starting the scanner. Windows 7, on the other hand, didn't experience any issues.

Basic: Don't mistake this app for a comprehensive all-in-one solution to PC security and stability. The software is designed to be run only once in a while, and it cannot monitor computer performance in real time.

Bottom Line

TechieBot is a great app to run after reinstalling Windows, because it will fetch a decent Web browser and some basic virus protection by itself, letting you focus on more meaningful tasks.
