Apple announced the date and time of its annual fall event — where it’s rumored to be announcing the release of the iPhone 6, iWatch, and perhaps a larger iPad — Thursday morning.

The most prominent rumors have Apple announcing two new iPhones on Sept. 9. Both are rumored to have larger screens than the current iPhone, the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 5s features a display that measures 4.0 inches, much smaller than competitors from Samsung and HTC. Analysts and rumormongers predict that the next iPhone will up the screen size to 4.7 inches, and that Apple will also release an even larger iPhone, at 5.5 inches. That would make Apple’s flagship phones comparable in size to rival Samsung’s two most popular phones, the Galaxy S5 and the enormous Galaxy Note 3.

The increase in screen size would hypothetically appeal to shoppers in China, India, and other Asian nations, where smartphone shoppers have mostly ignored the iPhone in favor of devices with larger screens.

Over the past few years, Apple has actually released its new iPhones for sale exactly 10 days after the announcement. If that holds this year, then the iPhone 6 would go on sale Sept. 19, which is a Friday.

We’ll find out for sure at the Apple event, which will be at 8 a.m. Sept. 9 at the Flint Center for Performing Arts at De Anza College in Cupertino, California. As MacRumors notes, that’s the same place that Steve Jobs revealed the first Mac computer 30 years ago.

One of their spies has spotted the construction of a white, three-story structure there, which is currently under heavy lockdown. Typically Apple presents at either the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco or at its Cupertino campus, meaning that this event could be much bigger than past announcements.
