New Tech Odessa Decathlon team 3rd in the nation

May 20—The New Tech Odessa Academic Decathlon team will be recognized at Ector County ISD's Tuesday school board meeting for their 3rd place finish in the Small School Division of the USAD Online National Competition held in late April. NTO was one of only two schools selected to represent Texas at the national competitions. Academic Decathlon is a competition for high school students across ten subject areas.

NTO Team members earned several individual awards:

— Rohan Reed won Silver in Music, Silver in Social Science, and Bronze in Art in the Scholastic division

— Kevin Enriquez won Gold in Music and Gold in Social Science in the Scholastic division

— Eva Herrera won Bronze in Music in the Scholastic division

— Yadiel Hernandez Rodriguez won Silver in the Varsity division

The 3rd place finish nationally caps a tremendously successful year for NTO's team. NTO also took 3rd place in the Small School Division at the Thomas E. Mosely Academic Decathlon State Meet led by Rohan Reed who won the Scholastic Gold Medal. The accolades did not stop there. NTO Coach Damian Gaytan was awarded the Small School Texas Coach of the Year.

The team from New Tech Odessa won the regional championship in January, as all 9 team members earned at least one medal.
