Team USA's Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson makes history in rout over OAR

It wasn’t quite the Miracle on Ice, but it’s only the preliminary round of the women’s ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang and already the women of Team USA are making history.

The American women were dominant in their 5-0 rout of the Olympic Athletes from Russia, who were outclassed in every phase of the game from the very beginning. Goaltender Nicole Hensley was more than prepared to stop a meager 13 shots on net, while the USA peppered the OAR with an impressive 50 in return.

However the star of the game was forward Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson, who recorded two goals and an assist — and set a new Olympic record. Lamoureux-Davidson officially has the fastest two goals every scored by a single player, male or female, in the Olympics.

She scored twice in six seconds.

Per Helene Elliot of the Los Angeles Times, Lamoureux-Davidson broke the previous record of two goals in 8 seconds, set by Sweden’s Carl Goran Oberg in 1960 at Squaw Valley.

The win is the Americans’ second in a row in the preliminary round after beating Finland 3-1. It’s an inspiring start for the USA women, who are preparing to take on their greatest rivals and the most formidable team in international hockey right now: Canada. They face off at 2:15 a.m. ET on Thursday, Feb. 15.
