NEWBURGH HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — Video released to the FOX 8 I-Team shows a suspect running from police, who was so desperate to get away he ran across a busy highway.

The pursuit happened Sunday afternoon, a short time after Cuyahoga Heights police were notified of a stolen vehicle and asked Newburgh Heights officers to help them stop the truck.

The vehicle was on Interstate 77 and the driver failed to stop for officers.

According to a Newburgh Heights police report, the speeds of the pursuit did not exceed 80 mph.

“The pursuit continued north on I-77 until the driver, identified as Shawn Lehman, stopped his vehicle in the high-speed lane and jumped over the divider wall just north of the Woodland Avenue exit,” the report states. “When he jumped the wall, he [then] ran into traffic, being struck by a passing motor vehicle, by what appeared to be the driver-side mirror. Officers continued on foot to apprehend the suspect.”

Lehman, 42, of Cleveland, was transported to the hospital for treatment.

He is facing numerous charges, including felony charges of receiving stolen property and fleeing and eluding. He was arraigned in Garfield Heights Municipal Court on Monday and his case was sent to the Cuyahoga County grand jury. Grand jurors will soon decide if Lehman should be indicted.
