I-TEAM: Dangerous rail crossing now repaired in Brook Park

BROOK PARK, Ohio (WJW) — The FOX 8 I-Team has found a dangerous local railroad crossing, now, fixed.

This comes after the I-Team had put a spotlight on the problem and repairs not getting done.

Talking about a rail crossing on Engle Road under the Snow Road bridge in Brook Park. Last year, we found state inspectors had written up the crossing for repairs needed multiple times.

We asked why it was taking so long for the big fix.

We learned state of Ohio inspectors did not have the power to force repairs. Only federal inspectors have that power.

We called the rail company, CSX, and others.

Brook Park officials worried about the danger especially, after the East Palestine train derailment.

Now, though, you can see CSX has made repairs.

Brook Park Mayor Ed Orcutt and Service Director Brian Beyer both, now, feel relieved.

Beyer said, “I’m very thankful. I know the residents of the city and motorists are thankful. It was probably a daily, weekly basis that we were getting complaints about that crossing.”

We’ve learned the repairs included work done on the rails actually running through that crossing. A lot of drivers pass through there every day.
