TCU DB Nick Orr suspended for first half of Big 12 title game after brawl with Baylor
TCU will be without starting safety Nick Orr for the first half of the Big 12 title game.
Orr was involved in a brawl during the third quarter of the Horned Frogs’ game at Baylor on Friday. The conference reviewed the incident and it was determined that Orr threw a punch during the “bench-clearing skirmish.” Orr, a senior, is tied for second on the team with 59 tackles. He also has two interceptions and three tackles for loss.
On the Baylor side, running back JaMycal Hasty and defensive end D.J. Artis will also serve suspensions. Because Baylor’s season ended Saturday, Hasty and Artis will serve their suspensions during 2018 conference opener against Kansas. Hasty will sit out the first half while Artis will miss the entire game.
“These sanctions are the direct result of clear video evidence which shows Nick Orr and JaMycal Hasty throwing punches at opposing players, and D.J. Artis kicking and punching at TCU players,” said Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby.
The incident occurred after Hasty took a hard hit near the sideline.
Once order was restored, unsportsmanlike conduct penalties were given to all players on both teams. Additionally, the Big 12 determined that Orr, Hasty and Artis committed “flagrant personal fouls.”

TCU, which led 35-22 at the time of the skirmish, won the game 45-22 to enter the conference title game with a 10-2 record. Baylor finished the season 1-11.
TCU lost 38-20 to Oklahoma in Norman on Nov. 11. The Horned Frogs get another crack at the Sooners at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
