TCU DB drops ball before end zone on INT return, but saves himself
A pick-six by TCU’s Jeff Gladney almost ended in disaster.
Gladney made a really good play to rip the ball away from Texas Tech receiver Dylan Cantrell’s hands around the 5-yard line and take off in the other direction.
Here’s the good part:
But then he did something exceptionally silly. Thankfully for the Horned Frogs, Gladney quickly realized his own gaffe. You’ll see what I mean:
Like we’ve seen in the past, Gladney, at the end of his 95-yard return, dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line. There were a few times last season where touchdowns were taken off the board because of that mistake.
But Gladney realized what he did and scooped up the ball in the end zone before a Texas Tech player could hop on it.
Gladney’s touchdown put the finishing touches on a great performance from the Horned Frogs’ defense. TCU has the inside track to a spot in the Big 12 title game against Oklahoma, but traveled to Lubbock without starting quarterback Kenny Hill and its top running back, Darius Anderson.
Texas Tech jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but wouldn’t score again. TCU went on to win 27-3 to improve to 9-2 on the year.
Texas Tech dropped to 5-6 and will need to beat Texas in Austin next weekend to reach a bowl.
