Man arrested after truck theft in Tazewell County

UPDATE: Thursday, May 16, 2024 @ 3:50 p.m. | A man was charged on Thursday, May 16, 2024, for the theft of a truck in Tazewell County.

According to the Tazewell Police Department, 27-year-old Derick Lee Wallace, of North Tazewell, was charged with the May 15, 2024 burglary to Ramey Automotive on Gov. G. C. Peery Hwy and the Grand Theft Auto of a 2023 RAM 1500 pickup truck.

The truck was found, and Wallace was arrested in the Galax area of Virginia.

The Tazewell Police Department thanked the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, the Tazewell 911 Dispatch Center, the Galax Police Department, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office, and Cedar Bluff Police Department, as well as 12 Enterprises (Happy Mart), Ramey Automotive, and members of the community who called with tips and information.


TAZEWELL, VA (WVNS) — The Tazewell Virginia Police Department is searching for a man after a truck was stolen in the North Tazewell on or around May 15, 2024, and a reward is being offered for any information that could lead to an arrest.

According to the Tazewell Virginia Police Department, at approximately Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at around 1:24 a.m., a truck was stolen in the North Tazewell area of Tazewell County by an unknown man.

The truck was reportedly a 2023 RAM 1500, big horn 4 X 4 crew cab 5’7, four door, silver metallic in color, bearing vehicle identification number 1C6SRFFTXPN539894 with an unknown license plate number.

The Tazewell Virginia Police Department stated that the unknown white man who drove off in the truck from a parking lot in North Tazewell was tall, slender, and wearing a zebra patterned hoodie.

According to the Tazewell Virginia Police Department, a $5,000 reward is being offered by Ramey Automotive Group for information that could lead to the arrest of the person who stole the truck.
