Taylorsville man dies in motorcycle crash in Hickory, police say

HICKORY, NC (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Taylorsville man lost his life Saturday after an SUV turned in front of him, according to the Hickory Police Department.

Officials say a white Lexus SUV was driving south on North Center Street just before 4:30 p.m. on May 11. The Lexus, driven by 53-year-old Choeum-Mach Chang, of Hickory, tried to make a left turn onto 18th Avenue Northwest and was hit by a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle driving in the opposite direction on North Center Street.

The driver of the motorcycle, 38-year-old Sean Darrel Vardell, of Taylorsville, was taken by Catawba County EMS to Frye Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to authorities.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
