Brianna Williams was convicted of second-degree murder on the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Taylor Williams. After being charged with torturing, maliciously punishing, or caging her daughter, she pleaded guilty. She was also arrested on grounds of child neglect and giving false information to authorities investigating the case. Williams reported her daughter missing on November 6, 2019, as per People Magazine.

She claimed she woke up that morning and found Taylor missing from her room. Brianna Williams also claimed that the apartment’s back door was open then. The police claimed that Williams stopped cooperating with the investigation shortly after she reported Taylor Williams missing. Nearly a week later, on November 12, 2019, human remains were found in the woods of Alabama and were later identified to be Taylor Williams’.

In the area where Taylor Williams’ remains were found, investigators also found a knife, wire, cardboard, blue gloves, a rope, some papers, and a Punch drink can, News 4 Jax reported. An autopsy failed to determine the exact cause of death despite suspicions of homicidal violence. It revealed linear enamel hypoplasia on the teeth and skull, which hinted at possible neglect and deadly illness. The medical examination proved that the body was heavily decomposed and scavenged by animals. There was a possibility of the death occurring 31 to 184 days before being found.

Taylor Williams’ mother was sentenced to life in prison at the age of 30 and is currently serving time at the Lowell Correctional Institution in Florida, according to state records. The court took into account the 1043 days Taylor Williams’ mother had already served in custody before sentencing her.

How did Brianna Williams get caught?

Brianna Williams attempted suicide by injecting herself with drugs right before she was charged in the case. She was then admitted to the hospital before she was arrested. Williams reportedly told authorities that she went to Alabama in October of that year to pick Taylor Williams up from her grandparents’ house. However, the grandparents claimed they only saw the child over a year ago and never after that. She also lied to investigators about Taylor Williams’ daycare. The staff at the daycare also said that Williams had not come around for a year, as CNN reported.

First Coast News reported that inside Brianna Williams’ Southside apartment, the police found a closet that was stinking and had traces of fecal remains and human decomposition, along with soup cans and soiled clothes. They found that Williams’ car was also in a similar condition. Authorities deduced that Taylor Williams was left alone in the closet when Brianna was not around. Blood stains were found at six different locations in the apartment.

Moreover, the autopsy revealed signs of childhood nutrition, stress, trauma, and disease. When they searched Brianna Williams’ computer, authorities found searches relating to malnutrition and child neglect, as per another report by News 4 Jax. This created significant suspicions and was one of the central factors that led to Williams being charged. They also charged Williams with tampering evidence.
