Taylor Swift takes cancer patient to AMC Awards

Taylor Swift will be arriving with her 18-year-old guest in Las Vegas, Nev. for the AMC Awards on April 1 after the teen, who is suffering from leukemia, reached out to her on Facebook.

According to SoundSpike, Kevin McGuire of Somerdale, N.J. started a Facebook campaign with his sister to try to get Swift to come to his prom. The campaign reached 90,000 followers on the social networking site.

McGuire recently had a relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and, “Nothing, I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin’s day more than Swift,” his sister wrote on the page.

Swift responded to him on Facebook, writing that that she is not able to make it to the prom, but, “I was wondering, the AMC Awards are coming up. Would you be my date?”

McGuire, who has been suffering with the disease since he was 13, was quick to accept the invitation.

“Obviously I said yes,” he said. “The AMC Awards is a lot better than the senior prom.”
