Taylor Swift plays the perfect redheaded vixen in Sugarland music video

Taylor Swift may have liked the color red enough to title an album after it, but she’s rarely extended the love for that hue to her hair. However, on June 6 the singer shared a glimpse of herself with fiery locks, which she tried out for an appearance in country duo Sugarland’s video “Babe.”

Swift, who co-wrote the song with Train frontman Pat Monahan and contributes backing vocals to it, posted a tease of the video — which drops Saturday — on her Instagram account.

If the new hair color weren’t enough to get fans in a tizzy, Swift also channels Christina Hendricks-esque Mad Men vibes, playing the part of a sexy midcentury bad girl testing a married man’s morals. (Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles plays the wife in the love triangle, while actor Brandon Routh is the cad in question.)

Swift personally approached her friends in Sugarland — who recently regrouped after several years’ hiatus — to gauge their interest in recording the song. “She reached out; we have obviously known each other for many years,” Nettles told PopCulture backstage at the 2018 ACM Awards.

Recognizing that Swift is notoriously cautious about letting her compositions go, Sugarland enthusiastically said yes. The track is slated to appear on their album Bigger, out Friday (June 8).

Swift has actually tried out the redheaded look before — albeit with a totally different vibe — when she wore a red wig in her 2015 video for “Bad Blood.”
