Taste citrus-fed sea bream at the Seafood and Sake Fair 2016

A festival is a-brewing at the Japanese food mecca under Marina Square.

Emporium Shoukuhin is getting ready to launch their inaugural Ehime Seafood and Sake Fair from 2 September to 30 September 2016.

The fair will highlight all things Japanese, including performances by the Ehime Fish Girls (high school girls performing traditional tuna cutting; 3 September at 1pm) and Tomochika 890 (a singer-songwriter who incorporates elaborate calligraphy while singing; 4 September at 5pm).

The highlight of course, is the seafood and sake, with most products coming from the little-known Ehime (which means “lovely princess”) prefecture. Located on Shikoku Island, it’s a perfect seaside resort town, surrounded by the Seto Inland Sea and well known for its fresh seafood delicacies and production of mikan (a type of Japanese orange).

Ehime went a step further by developing a special method of cultivating delicious seafood: feeding their fish a diet of mikan.

We had a taste of this unique fish and other amazing dishes at Takujo Japanese Dining, where they’re serving up a seven-course Seafood and Sake Pairing Menu for $78++ per person in celebration of the fair.

The pictures above show what you can expect. Each dish is paired with one of three types of Ehime sake, which were well explained by the staff, and each unique in its taste.
