Tarrant property owners get more time to protest values. Here’s why TAD extended deadline

Tarrant County property owners now have until May 24 to protest the values of their homes.

The Tarrant Appraisal District said Thursday it was extending the original May 15 deadline after its online protest tool was delayed while the district recovered from a ransomware attack.

The online protest tool is now working.

Romanian-based hacking group Medusa attacked TAD’s computer system in March and posted information from it on the dark web last week.

Typically, property owners have 30 days after they receive their value notice to protest the value of their home. Notices were sent last week.

The district sets property appraisals and administers exemptions for tax purposes.
