Target, Fab take top prizes for shopping apps at Webbys

The iPhone application for US-based retailer Target took the top prize in the category Shopping (Handheld Devices) at this year's Webby Awards on May 1, while the app for came top in the category Shopping (Tablet and all other Devices). 

This year marked the 16th edition of the Webby Awards, which honor the best of the internet including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video, mobile and apps. One winner in each of the 100 categories is awarded a Webby from the 1000-member academy, members of which include David Bowie and Richard Branson, while a People's Voice award is also chosen.

This year the official iPhone app of multi-channel retailer Target took the Webby Award in the category Mobile apps - Shopping (Handheld Devices) and the People's Voice Award in the same category. Other nominations in this category included Gilt, Harrods and ShopKick

Target's iPhone app enables users to check prices of items by scanning barcodes, create shopping lists, find details of their nearest real world store, track any prescriptions they might have at the pharmacy and purchase goods from Target directly from their phone.

The official iPhone app for daily design members-only flash sale site scooped both the Webby and People's Choice Awards in the category Mobile Apps Shopping (Tablet and all other Devices). Other nominations in this category included Sephora, Google Catalogs and Zappos

The iOS app enables users to preview upcoming sales, receive news of, and purchase, daily discounts and share news of their favorite interior design/accessories items on the site via Facebook and Twitter.
