Tarentum Dunkin' shut down after health inspectors discover sewage leak

May 24—The Allegheny County Health Department shut down the Dunkin' on East 10th Avenue in Tarentum after inspectors discovered what they said was sewage leaking from a grease trap and covering part of the floor.

The May 21 inspection led inspectors to deem the coffee and doughnut shop an "imminent hazard," forcing the location to shut down immediately.

The inspection report said the sewage leaking from the grease trap formed a large puddle that employees had to walk through, meaning it was tracked throughout the shop.

Managers must repair or replace the grease trap and eliminate the leak, according to the report, and any work must be done by a master plumber and then inspected by the health department.

Inspectors cited other violations as well, including a buildup of pink residue near the ice maker and dust and other residue built up on the ventilation system. Other low-risk issues included torn freezer gaskets and ice dumped in the employee hand-washing sink.

Employees and managers also couldn't find the shop's health permit, inspectors said

A spokesperson for the company could not immediately be reached on Monday.

Also cited last week was the Gold Door on Kelly Street in Pittsburgh's Homewood section, which inspectors said was operating without a valid health permit.

Beyond not having the proper permits and failing to submit plans to the health department, inspectors also noted a sewage leak in the basement, hot and cold holding temperature violations, a non-functional toilet in the men's restroom, damaged floors, a lack of refrigeration units and missing electrical covers.
