Tandy Leather Factory says May sales picked up

Tandy Leather says sales grew in May, and important sales measurement also strengthened

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Tandy Leather Factory Inc. said Thursday that a key revenue measurement grew 7 percent in May.

The company said total sales rose 7 percent to $5.9 million. Revenue at locations open at least a year also improved 7 percent. That figure is considered an important measurement of retailer health because they leave out results from stores that opened or closed within the last year.

The company runs 78 Tandy Leather retail stores and 29 Leather Factory stores. It said retail leathercraft sales grew to $3.5 million from $3.2 million and wholesale revenue grew to $2.1 million from $2 million. International sales edged up to $329,000 from $298,000.

Shares of Tandy Leather Factory slipped 9 cents to $7.85 in morning trading.
