Boy, 14, charged in Tampa shooting that seriously injured teen, police say

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after police say he shot another teenager on Friday afternoon, leaving him with serious injuries.

About 3:42 p.m., officers responded to a report of a juvenile who had been shot on the 8600 block of North Armenia Avenue, the Tampa Police Department said in a news release Friday.

Police on Tuesday said the victim was a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries Friday, and a spokesperson said he was in stable condition as of Monday.

Witnesses told police the shooting occurred after a fight near a bus stop on North Armenia Avenue. Officers retrieved video footage showing the suspect chasing the victim with a gun in his hand, police said Tuesday.

The Tampa Bay Times is not naming the boy who was arrested due to his age. He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony with a weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed firearm and being a minor in possession of a firearm.
