Tampa police ‘deeply concerned’ for missing woman after Amber Alert canceled

A missing girl last seen in Tampa who was the subject of an Amber Alert early Monday morning was found safe in north Florida less than two hours after her disappearance.

Law enforcement officials were still searching on Monday afternoon for her mother, who was included in the alert and they are “deeply concerned for her overall well-being,” according to a news release from Tampa police.

At about 1 a.m., the Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued an Amber Alert for 9-year-old Briana Pagan and Sylvia Pagan, 34.

Authorities identified Jovanni Caceres Steffani, 38, as a person of interest — he is listed as Briana’s abductor in a missing persons poster circulated by the state law enforcement agency.

Steffani was found dead in a Suwannee County hotel room just before 2 a.m. with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Suwannee County deputies also found Briana unharmed in the same hotel room and canceled the Amber alert about 2:30 a.m.

“As detectives diligently work to locate Sylvia Pagan, we are deeply concerned for her overall well-being,” according to the updated news release from Tampa police, which was sent out just before noon.

Sylvia Pagan was last seen about 10 a.m. Sunday in the 10400 block of Altman Street near Busch Gardens.

Tampa police ask anyone with information about her whereabouts call 813-231-6130 or 911.
