Ground stop issued at Tampa International Airport due to weather

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you have a flight out of Tampa International today, be prepared to experience delays.

A Ground Stop was issued Wednesday afternoon until 3:45 p.m., but its possible that could be extended, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Flights to Tampa are being held at their departure locations.

According to the airport’s website, nearly 1/3 of flights coming in and out of Tampa are experiencing delays ahead of thunderstorms expected this afternoon.

Out of the 559 flights today, 170 are delayed, and 17 have been canceled.

TPA told WFLA.com that weather conditions across the region, and country, are affecting departures and arrivals in Tampa.
