Tamaqua mother, son charged with drug sales

May 14—TAMAQUA — A woman is free on bail after being taken into custody by Tamaqua police around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on a felony arrest warrant.

Tamaqua Police Chief Michael Hobbs said Amy Lynn Lehatto, 42, was taken into custody after officers served the warrant at 407 Arlington St.

According to arrest papers, on Jan. 6, the Tamaqua Drug Task Force had information that a 16-year-old boy posted on Snapchat that he had Xanax, Percocet and LSD for sale.

Hobbs said the drug task force was able to have a confidential informant make arrangements to purchase the illegal drugs in an area on Mountain Avenue in front of the East End Park.

While being observed by officers and also videotaped, the informant was approached by a silver Jeep driven by Lehatto with her 16-year-old son in the passenger's seat. The chief said the Jeep was owned by Matthew Maley, who also owns the 407 Arlington St. property where Lehatto was taken into custody.

At the entrance to the park, Hobbs said, Lehatto took $150 from the informant. Then she received the pills and LSD from her 16-year-old son and gave them to the informant, Hobbs said.

As a result, Hobbs said, Lehatto was charged with three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance, one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, four misdemeanor counts of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count each of corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.

Lehatto was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, and released after posting 10 percent of her $50,000 bail.

A petition was also filed against the woman's son with Schuylkill County juvenile authorities, Hobbs said.
