TPD investigates murder at Providence Point Apartments; neighbors describe brutal stabbing

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating an early Friday morning homicide.

Neighbors at the scene described it as a brutal stabbing that left the community stunned.

Officers arrived at the Providence Pointe Apartments, located at 1242 Stuckey Avenue, around 5:30 a.m. when they found a woman "suffering from serious injuries," according to a TPD social media update.

"At this time, detectives are working to determine the circumstances of the incident and cause of death," TPD said. "This remains an open and active investigation and updates will be provided as more information becomes available."

A resident who lived two floors beneath the victim and was sitting outside in the parking lot, told the Democrat she didn't hear anything this morning. But the victim's next-door neighbor told her the woman was stabbed to death.

She said the victim managed to make it out of her apartment and bang on the next-door neighbor's door to get help before she collapsed.

The victim's blood was still visibly smeared on both apartment doors while TPD detectives surveyed the apartments and conducted their investigation

"That's somebody who had some rage in them to stab that girl like that," the resident said, referring to photos of the woman's body that the next-door neighbor had shown her.

A TPD spokesperson did not respond to a call and text about the neighbors' account.

The resident said the victim was in her early to mid 20s and had lived there alone for roughly two years. She had no idea why or how this could have happened.

"I'm still in shock," she said. "I'm surprised by that one."

Still, she said the apartment complex is no stranger to violent crime. Two years ago, Florida A&M University cheerleader Makayla Bryant was shot and killed at the complex during a botched drug deal. The year prior, a 10-year-old child was injured after someone shot into one of the apartments.

Detectives are asking witnesses to come forward in Friday's homicide. Anyone with information can call 850-891-4200 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS.
