Tallahassee Police Department honors lives lost in line of duty

Flags were lowered, flowers were laid and salutes were performed.

Family members, community members, local leaders and first responders gathered in front of the Tallahassee Police Department headquarters to remember the lives of officers who died in the line of duty.

A wreath and individual roses were laid to honor the men and women "who have made the ultimate sacrifice," Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said.

"We at the Tallahassee Police Department will always do our part to bear that burden, to assure that the sacrifice of those we honor today was not in vain," Revell said.

The Tallahassee Police Department's Honor Guard lowered to half staff the three flags that fly outside the law enforcement agency before names were called out. Each fallen officer received an individual flower and salute.

TPD also honored employees who passed away in "an off-duty capacity while still being an active member," and an officer and a facilities staff member who both died in vehicle crashes last year.

TPD Officer DeMarrio Bryant's family walked up a presented a rose in his honor.

Bryant, 43, was killed in an off-duty motorcycle accident in Gadsden County last December after he was unable to avoid colliding with a car that pulled out in front of him, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
