A Talent Show to Honor Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) non-profit is celebrating Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by hosting a talent show in an effort to integrate the people they serve and the community.

New Horizons Behavioral Health has provided compassionate, professional care for individuals and families struggling with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or addictive diseases. The organization works to provide tools that lead the people they serve to have successful and fulfilling lives.

In an effort to allow the people they serve feel included, the organization is hosting their sixth annual talent show. The talent show is a way for the community to see beyond the people disabilities and provide acceptance.

JoAnn Mosely the Intellectual Developmental Disabilities Coordinator of New Horizons says, “They want the same life anybody wants. We face these things too, so we have to be there to support and guide them through these processes. And having the community understand that everybody deserves to have a life and live a good life.”

Individuals in the Developmental Disabilities program are lifetime members and will perform songs, poems, and other talents accompanied by a live Dj on March 15 during the talent show. The talent show is held at the New Horizons Behavioral Health facility on Lawyers Lane from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
