Hu Yu-wei, Taiwan's information minister, did what you and many of your friends have probably done recently: He posted a picture of an iPhone 5 on his Facebook wall. His caption: "Bolster consumption and economy."

And then there was controversy. Why? Because the iPhone is the direct and fiercest competitor of Taiwanese phone company HTC. His seemingly innocent Facebook picture drew criticism from every corner, including the media. The newspaper United Daily News wrote that "as a government official, Hu should have done whatever he could to promote the domestic economy at a time when it is in trouble."

The backlash forced Hu to post another picture, this time of an HTC One S. Hu also wrote that the One S is actually his phone, while the iPhone 5 belonged to a friend.
