Tacoma Narrows Bridge reopens after emergency repairs
TACOMA, Wash. - A portion of the older section of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge was shut down for a few days for emergency repairs.
On Thursday, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reopened all lanes across the westbound SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge. These lanes were reduced down to two lanes for emergency repairs to the bridge deck.
Crews discovered an issue with a bridge joint in the middle of the "1950s westbound span," according to WSDOT.
We've reopened all lanes across the westbound SR 16 Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The lane closures were in place to allow for emergency repairs on an expansion joint. The multi-day lane closure was required for concrete to cure. Thanks for patience while we made repairs!

During the closure, crews repaired an expansion joint on the bridge deck. After it was repaired, crews poured new concrete, which required a couple days to cure.
The closure lasted around the clock and for several days.
Starting this afternoon (5/13) until further notice, the 1950s Tacoma Narrows Bridge will be reduced to two lanes for emergency repairs. We expect the lanes to remain closed for multiple days. HOV lane is open to all. For real-time info: https://t.co/HUGa1WTbqq pic.twitter.com/JEu7OIDvGv
