AT&T says equipment failure caused outage across Hampton Roads

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — AT&T customers across Hampton Roads experienced a major outage Wednesday morning.

According to the Downdetector map, the outages were first reported around 4 a.m. and were concentrated in the Hampton Roads region.

Customers took to the AT&T Help social media account on X to reach out about the outage. Just before 8 a.m., one user posted “Another major outage in Virginia! This is not okay.”

AT&T Spokesperson Sarah Rodriquez provided 10 On Your Side with the following statement:

“We worked as quickly as possible to restore service to some customers in the coastal areas of Virginia and North Carolina whose service may have been affected this morning by an equipment failure. We apologize for the inconvenience. ”
