T-Mobile CEO says iPhone will finally put an end to subscriber exodus
After being snubbed for more than five years, T-Mobile will finally be able to offer Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone to its subscribers in 2013. Parent company Deutsche Telekom announced on Thursday that T-Mobile USA will ”launch Apple products in the U.S. in 2013,” and while it is unclear which model or models the carrier will make available, T-Mobile’s chief executive has high hopes for Apple’s smartphone. Speaking with Reuters on Friday, T-Mobile USA chief John Legere said that the iPhone will help put an end to the carrier’s subscriber defections as soon as next year. ”It is an aggressive target but we think it is possible,” Legere said. T-Mobile also announced that it will end its smartphone subsidy program next year, making it the first major U.S. wireless carrier to do so.
