T.J. Miller Hosts Critics’ Choice Awards 3 Days After His Arrest

Silicon Valley Team Talk T.J. Miller's Exit, Allude to His 'Demons'

Less than three days after his arrest under suspicion of battery early Friday morning, T.J. Miller took to the stage as host of the Critics’ Choice Awards.

The 35-year-old Silicon Valley star donned a tuxedo — well, half of one, plus a whistling set of lips painted on his stomach — as he made his entrance.

“That was very fun to watch all your faces kind of not know what to do with that, guys,” he quipped.

Miller went on to address the “elephant in the room”: “It’s been in the news all weekend, and it’s really affected me — the election was definitely hacked by the Russians,” he skirted. “So luckily, we’re doing an awards show here in an airplane hangar in Santa Monica, so we’re safe — what are they going to hack the teleprompter?”

He feigned at discussing the scandal again, saying, “Okay, let’s talk about the real elephant in the room. Everyone’s been asking me about it all weekend, people were asking me about it on the blue carpet, and yes … it is the 31st anniversary of A Chorus Line on Broadway,” he joked.

Miller was in good humor — even taking a pot shot at trolls of all stripes, including “one we elected for president” — less than 72 hours after officers responded to a radio call early Friday morning the made by the driver of a car service company, who accused Miller of battery, officer Drake Madison told PEOPLE on Friday. The driver of the unnamed car service company requested a private person’s arrest, Madison said.

According to Madison, officers followed the victim to Miller’s residence, where he was arrested and taken into custody around 1 a.m.

Miller was booked at the Hollywood station, cited for a misdemeanor — bail was set at $20,000 — and released on his own recognizance with a notice to appear in court at a later date. No other details were available.

Just before the ceremony, Miller took to Twitter and wrote, “Tonight I will address the elephant in the room at @CriticsChoice on A&E. Tune in and find out.”

The Critics’ Choice Awards are airing live on A&E.
