After more than five years of languishing on the market, T. Boone Pickens’ 65,000-acre Roberts County ranch has finally sold.

Pickens listed the property, known as Mesa Vista Ranch, for $250 million in 2017, two years before his death at 91. The listing price dropped to $170 million in February 2022.

Mesa Vista Ranch is about 85 miles northeast of Amarillo.

The listing includes a 25,000-square foot lodge, an 11,500-square-foot lake house, a 6,000-square-foot family home, a two-story gate house, a storage facility for hunting gear and 10,000 square feet of porches and patios. According to the listing, the front door of the lake house was once attached to Bing Crosby’s home.

The property also features a tennis court, golf course, chapel, airport and an 11,000-square-foot kennel for hunting dogs.

When he put his prized compound up for sale, Pickens tweeted: “I’m proud of our conservation efforts that have taken place over decades and hope the next owner has the same passion.”

Pickens started transforming this swath of the Texas Panhandle in 1971 with his purchase of 2,900 acres in Roberts County.

More than 50 years later, the ranch stretches more than 100 square miles.
