Syria said Sunday that the Iranian retaliation for the strike on its consulate in Damascus is a "legitimate right," state media reported.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mokdad during a telephone call with his Iranian counterpart stressed that the Iranian "response to the Zionist entity is a legitimate right to self-defense."

Meanwhile, the state-run Syrian News Agency (SANA) cited a Foreign Ministry statement as saying that "the Iranian strikes on Israeli military targets came within the framework of Iran exercising its right to self-defence," a statement by the Syrian Foreign Ministry said.
