Syracuse fans give former coach Scott Shafer standing ovation in his return

Former Syracuse coach Scott Shafer got a warm welcome back in his first game at the Carrier Dome since he was fired as the team’s head coach.

Shafer is now the defensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State and as he walked up the steps to the visiting coaches’ box Saturday, Syracuse fans greeted him with handshakes and a standing ovation.

Pretty cool, especially when you contrast it with the idiot who wrote a threatening letter with a racial slur to Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin’s house earlier this week.

Shafer was let go by Syracuse after the Orange went 4-8 in 2015 and replaced by Dino Babers. He was hired as MTSU’s defensive coordinator in January. Before he was promoted to head coach with the Orange, Shafer spent four seasons as a defensive assistant with the school.

It ended up being a good day for Shafer. MTSU pulled off a 30-23 road upset.
