Sydney FC wins record 19th match in A-League

SYDNEY (AP) — Sydney FC won its A-League-record 19th match during the regular season by beating Melbourne City 3-0.

After a close opening hour, skipper Alex Brosque and Brazilian import Bobo scored in a six-minute span, and Bobo sealed the match with his second goal in the 90th minute.

One week after securing the Premiers' Plate for finishing in first place with three matches remaining, the Sky Blues also kept a record 15th clean sheet of the season.

The three points took Sydney to 62, keeping the title favorites on track to eclipse Brisbane's 65-point mark set over 30 games in 2010-11.

Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold credited his team's dominant finish to its superior fitness.

"As I've said for the past 20 weeks, we're the fittest team in the country," Arnold said. "We'll run over teams."

The Brisbane Roar beat last-place Central Coast 5-1 on Sunday to move into third place, ahead of Melbourne City.

Western Sydney is in fifth place after defeating Newcastle 3-0. The sixth-place Perth Glory, occupying the final playoff spot, settled for a 1-1 draw with Adelaide United.

In the other match on Sunday, the Wellington Phoenix kept their playoff chances alive with a 3-0 win over the second-place Melbourne Victory. The Phoenix trail the Glory by four points with two rounds remaining.
